FABRIQUE FABRICS REMNANT CHALLENGE
VEST: BROWN HEMP
SILVER HORSE
Lora Simonds,
owner of Fabrique Fabrics, would have wonderful sewing contests and challenges,
and her store was heaven to me. They
have every kind of fabric I could want not to mention the accessories (from
antique buttons to books on pattern making).
Best of all Lora taught sewing classes!
Unfortunately, we moved to another state and I could not commute for
classes.
My first sewing
project (in more years than I like to admit) was to be a vest with a
collar. When I got to the collar there
were no markings on the pattern and the instructions had no pictures just the
words now do the collar. I forgot so
much since sewing classes in school! The
next day I was enrolled in her sewing class to finish my vest.
The remnant
challenge was so much fun because we had to register our “remnant” purchase at
her store, we had a completion date, and then the projects were judged. We were judged on original design, construction,
etc. There were all kinds of prizes and
a party. I did not win but I think my
vest had the least waste! It took losing
a few pounds to get the pattern to fit the fabric!
The vest is made
of hemp, hand painted, and the lining is a beautiful silver on silver
silk. I designed the vest pattern.
Keep sewin’
